BYD has officially previewed expansion to the Dynasty lineup yet in a follow up to their recent Ocean Series preview. In a teaser released this week, BYD unveiled plans for two new flagship models: the Tang 9 SUV and the Han 9 large sedan.

Set to officially debut in the first half of 2026, these models will push into the 200,000 to 300,000 RMB ($28,700 – $43,000 USD) price bracket, directly challenging established entry-level luxury competitors.

The "9 Series": A New Standard for Supremacy

In Chinese culture, the number nine represents supremacy and longevity. While the company is currently crowdsourcing final names, with suggestions like "Great Han" and "Great Tang" in the mix, industry insiders refer to them as the 9 Series.

Both vehicles will feature BYD’s most advanced technological suite to date, moving beyond the mass-market appeal of the current Han and Tang models to offer a true premium experience.

Tang 9: The Dynasty-D Concept Comes to Life

Reports confirm that upcoming Tang 9 is the production version of the Dynasty-D concept, which featured at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show.

  • Dimensions: Expected to exceed 5.2 meters in length, placing it firmly in the full-size SUV category.
  • Design: Teaser images reveal a side profile mirroring the concept car, featuring chrome trim strip extending to the D-pillar and double chrome accents on the B-pillar.
  • Versatility: Like its predecessors, it aims to offer a blend of family practicality and executive luxury.

Han 9: The Executive Lounge on Wheels

The Han 9 sedan is designed to be a sanctuary for business and leisure alike. It is expected to surpass the dimensions of the current best-selling Han EV.

  • Dimensions: Length exceeding 5.1 meters and a wheelbase of approximately 3.1 meters, maximising interior legroom.
  • Positioning: Targeted at the executive market, likely competing with long-wheelbase versions of European luxury sedans.

Cutting-Edge Tech: 1000V Architecture and LiDAR

Both the Han 9 and Tang 9 are expected to be built on BYD's latest high-performing Super e-Platform featuring:

  1. Powertrain Flexibility: Options for both BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) and PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid) variants.
  2. Fast Charging: An 1000V high-voltage architecture for ultra-fast 1MW charging capabilities, a continuation of the current Tang L and Han L that introduced this feature to the Chinese market.
  3. Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS): Teaser images clearly show roof-mounted LiDAR units on both models. This hardware indicates high-level God's Eye autonomous driving capabilities, supporting city navigation and advanced highway piloting.

Market Context: Building on a Legacy of Success

The launch of the 9 Series comes as BYD seeks to revitalise sales of its flagship lines. As of November 2025, the Han and Tang series had achieved cumulative sales of over 1.93 million vehicles. However, 2025 saw fluctuating monthly numbers with the Han series ending the year with 10,011 units sold in December and the Tang series moving 10,129 units.

By introducing the larger, more luxurious 9 Series, BYD aims to capture upgrade demand from its massive existing user base while attracting buyers who might otherwise look to premium German brands or domestic rivals like Li Auto and Nio.
