BYD Launches Two Custom Fortnite Maps
BYD has partnered with GGTech Studios to create two branded experiences within Fortnite. The collaboration introduces an Adventure Map titled "BYD Future City" and a "BYD Racing" Rocket Racing Map. Both maps integrate the electric vehicle manufacturer's brand directly into the gaming platform's universe.
This isn't the first time that BYD has entered the Fortnite Universe. The current partnership follows a 2024 test in Brazil, where the company developed the "Blade Ball BYD City" map for Brazilian players and offered two BYD Yuan Pro SUVs as prizes in the Blade Ball Hero Cup competition.
The BYD Expo in Future Map is also unique in that features the World's First Drone Show ever created in Fortnite. Inspired by BYD’s real-world 1000-drone show in Rome celebrating the launch of the BYD Dolphin Surf earlier this year.

What Players Experience in the Maps
The BYD Future City Adventure Map features four challenges designed for players of all ages. The experience incorporates trending Fortnite gameplay mechanics including parkour and "Only Up" climbing challenges. Players explore the map while developing skills through obstacle navigation and vertical ascension challenges.
A distinctive element of the Future City map is a recreated drone show originally presented by BYD in Rome to announce their electric vehicle lineup. GGTech Studios manually placed and animated each drone within the Unreal Editor for Fortnite, translating a physical spectacle into an interactive gaming experience.
The BYD Racing Map utilises Fortnite's Rocket Racing mode, where players complete timed runs through a custom track. The format supports both multiplayer competition and single-player race formats. This racing configuration allows for direct competition in events and showroom-style environments featuring BYD's vehicle designs.

What This Marketing Channel Choice Reveals
The Fortnite demographic skews younger, predominantly 18-34. That's not the typical EV purchase decision-maker profile and displays that BYD is looking further than the immediate conversion potential. It's the brand familiarity timeline BYD is establishing.
This marks a long-term brand-building horizon. Kids seeing the BYD brand in Fortnite today won't be buying vehicles for another decade. Most automotive manufacturers think in product cycles of 3-5 years. BYD is operating on a different timeline entirely.

A Different Playbook for Different Markets
BYD tested gaming integrations in Latin America before expanding the strategy more broadly. In Latin America, commercial brand partnerships and cultural presence play a big part in how the brand is perceived.
The distinction reveals how BYD adapts its market entry strategy based on what drives consumer perception. Australian buyers want regulatory credibility and demonstrated reliability. Latin American markets respond to brand visibility and cultural integration.
Bolder Than Other Chinese Brands
No other Chinese EV manufacturer has attempted anything comparable. Xpeng has a flying car concept. Other brands focus on positioning themselves as automotive companies. BYD appears to be building toward something larger than vehicle sales.
While Tesla built brand awareness through Elon Musk's social media presence and traditional EV manufacturers focus on automotive media, BYD is testing alternative brand-building infrastructure in new markets. The company is targeting recognition across all demographics, establishing familiarity before product availability rather than driving immediate purchase decisions.
